Do you enjoy making music? Whether you're new in town or you're picking up your instrument after several years, we have a place for you!
Our members span a wide range of experience and ability, and our goal is to select music and provide coaching that allows everyone to exercise and improve their skills. For our non-audition ensembles, all we ask is that you be able to read music and have at least basic skills on your instrument.
While we have numerous ensembles, our basic membership details are universal.
Participation fees allow us to pay for general operating expenses including rehearsal space rental, music/instrument purchases, website hosting and services, bookkeeping services, and insurance.
All members are required contirubte. Fees are typically paid quarterly or annually, though other frequencies may be utilized.
Concert Band - $10/month or $120/annual
Wind Ensemble - $50/annual
Jazz Band - $25/quarter
Jazz Orchestra - $50/quarter
Marching Band - $50/annual
For members who need financial assistance, we have a Scholarship Fund.
All members, staff, and volunteers must agree to abide by our Code of Conduct to participate in activities with the Vancouver Music Organization. This code may change from time to time and is available on our Code of Conduct page.
Our goal is to make joining as accessible as possible.
For the concert and jazz programs, regular attendance to rehearsals is critical to ensemble preparation. Members should expect to attend at least 75% of rehearsals during a concert season. Exceptions can be made at the discretion of the Music Director, who may require the member demonstrate their mastery of the music by testing out their part individually. When members are to be absent, they should email their section leader and copy the Music Director.
The marching programs is much more flexible and is up to the discretion of the Music Director. Requirements may change based on upcoming performances and other needs.
The Vancouver Music Organization has instruments available to loan to members. Certain instruments like drums and marching brass are routinely loaned, but we also have limited smaller winds and concert instruments available. Contact a Music Director for availability.
Our organization and performances only operate with the help of a team of volunteers. We ask every member to donate whatever time and skills they have available to our shared effort. We work together in a friendly environment to fulfill our mission and shared goals. There's a lot of opportunities to learn new skills and accomplish great things as a part of our team. Let us know what ways you can help out!
