It all started with the Concert Band! Our Concert program allows us to perform classical and contemporary music year-round at local events and concerts!
Then, we expanded with the Jazz Band! Our Jazz program allows us to perform big band music dating back to the 1930's and 40's all throughout the year!
Finally, we launched our own Marching Band! Our Marching program takes music to the streets, performing in local parades and events during the summer!
Founded originally in 2005 as the Vancouver Community Concert Band by Dr. Jim Rourk, we have since expanded our ensemble offerings to include jazz, marching, and more!
In 2025, the Vancouver Music Organization was established to represent our evolution and a new governance structure was adopted. As an organization, we perform at various civic and patriotic events, neighborhood festivals, and many other local and regional events.
The Vancouver Community Concert Band (VCCB) is founded by Dr. Jim Rourk to promote community music throughout the Vancouver, WA area. During its early years, the group performed at various civic and patriotic events, neighborhood festivals, and many other local events.
The VCCB introduces a new Director, Erin Hanson, and shifts focus towards adult music education. In the following year, the VCCB spawns numerous chamber groups to increase performance opportunities for current and potential members. Two groups, Woodwinds Anonymous and Same Old Schmidt (polka), become staples.
The Clark County Marching Band (CCMB) is formed to serve as an ambassador for the VCCB and generate membership from those interested in the marching arts. In its inaugural season in 2024, the CCMB performed in two parades with around 25 participants.
The Vancouver Community Jazz Band (VCJB) is launched as an auxiliary ensemble of the VCCB under the direction of Neil Huss. A near-instant success, the VCJB hosted six performances in its inaugural year leading to the formation of a smaller combo to accommodate increased interest.
In response to rapid expansion, the VCCB establishes a new parent organization - Vancouver Music Organization - to better represent it's activities. This presents the image that we've become a collection of music ensembles and sets the foundation for further growth.
